This unit will give learners an understanding of the key features of health and safety legislation and regulations and how these are applied in engineering to ensure safe working conditions.

On completing this course successfully learners will be able to:
1. Understand the key features of health and safety legislation and organizational requirements
2. Identify various types of hazards and methods by which they can be detected in the workplace
3. Carry out a risk assessment and identify control measures to minimize risks
4. Understand the methods used when reporting and recording accidents and incidents
- Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) - Graduates from this programme can progress to the final year of the BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology programme.
- Mechanical Engineering - Graduates from this programme can progress to the final year of a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme (subject to approval).
- Construction and the Built Environment (Building Services Engineering - HVAC) - Graduates from this programme can progress to the BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Construction) or BSc (Hons) Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (Top-Up).
